Description

Androginul retells Plato’s Republic for those new to it. Cătălin Partenie wrote this work of philosophy. The idea grew from his life in the pandemic. He had to stay at home. He saw how phone screens held people’s gaze. This made him think of Plato’s cave story. He read the work again. He then wished to tell it to someone new to it. The rules meant they could not meet. So he chose to write instead.

Partenie teaches philosophy in Bucharest. He works at the National School of Political and Administrative Studies. He teaches in its Faculty of Political Science. He studied philosophy in Bucharest and Oxford. He also studied in Heidelberg and Glasgow. He writes for the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. He also writes for The Bloomsbury Handbook of Plato. He has edited books, too. These include Plato. Selected Myths and Plato’s Myths.

His first novel was Vizuina de Aur. It won two awards. He wrote it in English. It then came out in Romanian and Spanish. Versions in Brazilian Portuguese and German followed, too.

Androginul is part of the FilosoFii Agora collection.
