Bonifatia.

Bonifacia explores memory, desire, and the search for women. These women offer shelter and hope. Paul Goma draws on women who shaped his troubled life. He turns his memories of them into people in the novel. He returns to times when he felt things deeply. These memories can unsettle him as well as stir desire.

This novel takes a close look at inner life. It forms part of Goma’s cycle of works about women. Its themes of sex and desire link past events and feelings. This edition pairs his prose with art by Teo Buzu. Both men are Romanian artists from Bessarabia. Both live far from home. Their words and drawings explore women and desire. They try new forms of writing and visual art.
