Cătunul

Cătunul tells of young Flem Snopes and his rise to power. He lives in rural Mississippi. He comes to rule Moșia Franțuzului, where people soon fear him. He seeks power with no sense of right or wrong. His tale joins those of his neighbours in Yoknapatawpha. Faulkner made up this county. Their lives show rural America at the turn of a century.

William Faulkner wrote this novel. It gives ancient tragedy an ironic twist. It also takes a sharp, critical view of the American South. This is the first of three books about the Snopes family. Faulkner won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949. He also won Pulitzer Prizes in 1955 and 1963.
