Buck, a large, strong, gentle dog, falls into cruel hands. He must learn to survive attacks from other dogs and blows from people. His old instincts return as he learns to lead. Wit and strength help him find his place in the wild.

Jack London’s adventure novel follows Buck from a safe home in California to the Alaska gold rush. He becomes a sled dog and faces a choice between life with people and the wild. London drew on his own adventures to tell the story.
