Despre psihanaliză

Sigmund Freud explores psychoanalysis, its goals, and its view of the mind. These essays and talks trace his thought from 1909 to 1938. They include five talks he gave in the United States. They also include a late work he did not finish.

The book helps readers new to the subject learn its basics. It is for students who study the mind or medicine. It also serves those in education, sociology, and philosophy. Students of literature and theology form part of its audience too. Experts can follow Freud as he reviews his work. They can also learn about his newer ideas. These texts build on his earlier talks for new learners.

Freud argues that we know only part of our mental life. Much of it takes place without our knowing it. He puts these unconscious processes at the core of his view. He also compares dreams to brief, harmless states of psychosis. These states end, which leads him to ask a question. Could treatment reverse severe mental illness too?

The book looks at libido, drives, and how sex develops. It also looks at how to read dreams for meaning. Its longer outline has three main parts. First, Freud sets out how he thinks the mind works. Next, he explains ways to treat people and gives a case. Last, he explores the mind's links to inner and outer worlds. Other texts explain the basic ideas and goals of psychoanalysis. They also explore its problems.

Daniela Stefanescu translated these texts for this edition. Vasile Dem. Zamfirescu wrote its opening essay on Freud's late work.
