Description

A ship carrying hundreds of packed robots sinks in a storm. Waves wash the wreckage onto an island with no people. Only one box survives the rocks along the shore. Sea otters open it and switch on Roz, the robot inside. She has no idea why she is there. To survive, she must learn about her new home.

Peter Brown’s tale for children follows Roz as she learns from island life. Built to help, she can learn fast and use new skills. But the animals fear her, which makes finding friends hard. She learns their language and forms bonds with them. She finds a family and a sense of purpose. She also becomes a mother to a young gosling named Krasnoklyuvik.

The story has reached readers in 20 languages. Its bestseller lists include those of The New York Times and IndieBound. Entertainment Weekly also chose it among its best middle-grade books of the year. Chris Sanders adapted it into an animated film released in 2024. This edition belongs to the publisher’s М.И.Ф. Книги-события series.
