Dragoste sacra

Dragoste sacra looks at our need for love and purpose. It also looks at our wish to feel close to God. It argues that work and success cannot fill this need. Nor can church duties, hobbies, or a life of fantasy. The authors see this ache as God's call. He seeks a close, personal bond with each of us. They link faith with daily life, not a life apart.

This Christian nonfiction book speaks to those who feel hurt or lost. It also speaks to those who feel cut off from God. Some may have faith yet still feel ill at ease. Brent Curtis and John Eldredge look at our wish for beauty. They explore our need to belong and our thirst for adventure. These needs persist in a world of danger and disorder. They ask how we lose touch with our hearts. How do we stop hearing God's voice? They look at how people seek comfort in addictions. They also look at other things that cannot meet these needs.

Twelve chapters explore God's love, human wounds, and the Fall. They also look at lesser loves. Later parts turn to faith shared in hard times. They explore the hope of coming home to God. An epilogue looks at memory and hopes for Eden's return. The book ends with a list of sources, or bibliography.

This revised edition builds on their work first published in 1997. Curtis died in a climbing accident in 1998. Eldredge then took charge of the changes to the book. He sought to keep the first version's core message.

Both authors worked as counsellors, helping people with their troubles. Curtis worked on wounds to the heart and how to heal them. Eldredge also writes and speaks. He once directed theatre and worked as a pastor. He founded the Wild at Heart ministry in 2000. He lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, Stasi. They have three sons who live with them.
