Description

Emma Woodhouse has wealth, beauty, and a quick mind. She enjoys being single and sees no need to marry. Yet she likes to guide other people's love lives. She sets out to find a match for Harriet Smith, her young protégée. Her friend Mr Knightley warns her against the plan. Emma ignores him, and her efforts to help cause pain.

Jane Austen's classic novel explores the harm that good intentions can cause. It suits readers drawn to stories of love and misguided matchmaking. Maria Adam translated this edition from English.

The novel inspired films in 1996 and 2020. Douglas McGarth directed the first, with Gwyneth Paltrow, James Cosmo, and Greta Scacchi. Autumn de Wilde directed the second, with Anya Taylor-Joy, Johnny Flynn, and Mia Goth.
