Fluturele negru

Fate shapes Caravaggio’s life in Fluturele negru. The book explores his harsh youth and love for a lost woman. His bond with a respected teacher spans two views of painting. Death haunts the tale. A black butterfly serves as its sign throughout.

Radu Paraschivescu’s novel blends art, love, and the fear of death. It suits those who like tales about painters and their work. Art gives him a brief escape from his dark world. His paintings ask us to see their subjects in new ways.

Humanitas put out this revised second edition in 2019. The cover shows part of Caravaggio’s Copil muşcat de guşter.
