Эмили Бронте’s novel tells of a love doomed to fail. Heathcliff loves Catherine. He is an estate owner’s adopted son. She is that owner’s daughter. They live amid bleak moors. Strong passions shape their lives.

Бронте’s father was a parish priest. She died young. Her sister, Charlotte, found the book’s characters harsh. To her, they clashed with Victorian values.

The story has led to more than fifteen films. One is Emerald Fennell’s 2026 film. Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi star in it. It came out almost 180 years after the novel first appeared.
