Invierea

Invierea follows Nehliudov and Katiuşa. It also shows the lives of those around them. Lev Tolstoi’s novel includes peasants, prisoners and jailers. It also shows generals and their families.

One scene shows the man who commands a fort. He takes part in spiritism, a way to contact spirits. Madame Korceaghina cannot leave her chair. Feodosia’s loving husband also appears in the book. The ending turns to a Gospel passage.

Tolstoi had left earlier plans unfinished. He sought to join them in one long novel. He wanted it to show his views at the time. This edition forms part of the 100 capodopere series. Vasile Leviţchi translated the text.
