Kronika. Între timp. Amintiri din casa Cezarului

Daniel Barbu recalls his time in Romanian politics from 2012–2016. His notes cover fights for power and abuses he recalls from public office. The book asks how events we live through become history. This memoir looks at faith and power. It is for readers drawn to these themes.

For Barbu, citizens hold the true power in a liberal democracy. They trust those in politics to run public life. Yet they risk losing control. He draws on a warning from Rousseau. Our freedom faces threats when others rule for us. A Bible verse, Philippians 4:21, frames Barbu’s wish to serve in politics. He seeks to do so while keeping his Christian faith. His view of time links Christ’s birth in human form and his return. It ties both to the chances and limits of daily life.

Barbu was Romania’s culture minister in 2012–2013. He also served as a senator. He holds doctorates in history, philosophy and theology. He teaches political science at the University of Bucharest. He founded its Faculty of Political Science in 1995. He held visiting posts in Pittsburgh, Paris and Budapest. He also held such posts in Bordeaux and Aix-en-Provence. He has published twelve books. This book belongs to the Kronika series.
