Description

Daniela Zeca-Buzura studies how TV talk shows work and change. She looks at their effects on society and culture. She draws on Romanian shows aired from January 2001 to June 2014. She places them in a TV world drawn to unsolved crimes. Marriage troubles and breaches of social norms also draw its gaze.

This book studies media, talk shows, and public debate. It asks whether these shows give people a forum for debate. It also looks at what takes place in them. Part of the study takes a constructivist approach to debate. This means it looks at how people build meaning. Other chapters ask what status this type of show has. They explore its roles in newer forms of TV. These include its use to meet aims and to convey meaning through symbols. The book forms part of the Media series.

Zeca-Buzura draws on her work as a talk-show host and producer. She studied literature, journalism, and communication. She holds a master’s degree in communication studies. In 2001, she earned a doctorate in philology at the University of Bucharest. She also taught journalism there. In 2003, she became editor-in-chief of TVR’s literature and arts department. She then led TVR Cultural from 2004 to 2012. Eurolink and the European Commission gave her a TV award in 2006. She has written poetry, fiction, criticism, and books on TV. Her profile lists her as a Romanian Writers’ Union member. It also lists her as a TVR2 producer and host.
