Shaun Usher collects letters on music from two centuries. They show how people love music and what it means to them. This book of real letters is for readers with an interest in music. It shares life stories and broad views on the art.

One letter replies to a fan aged eight. In another, a writer praises Wagner’s music. A deaf woman writes to thank an orchestra. Some letters ask what jazz is. Others take a fun look at punk’s roots. The mood shifts from grief to humour. Odd tales sit next to private thoughts.

The series has letters from Beethoven, Baudelaire, and Verdi. Erik Satie and Helen Keller also wrote letters in it. So did Richard Strauss and Harry S. Truman. It also has letters from Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave. Cornelia Florea did the translation of this volume from English.
