O nouă ultimă zi

O. Nimigean follows a man's daily life through 2012. The story starts before Christmas 2011 and ends just into 2013. It deals with strain in a couple's life, illness and healing. The man makes calls and watches films. He browses the web and flips through TV channels. He walks around Paris and spends time at home. He flies between France and Romania, and he meets friends. His mother lives in a care home in Romania.

This work of literary fiction gives thought more space than plot. Pauses and gaps give way to bursts of talk. The voice mocks itself, then shifts to raw feeling. It moves between coarse speech and poetry. Death gives weight to the small acts of each day.

Public life unfolds beside these private cares. Hollande wins the French election. Romania faces a crisis in its politics. Traian Băsescu leaves his post under suspension. This makes Crin Antonescu the head of state for a time. A referendum takes place before Băsescu's return to office. Both secular and faith holidays mark the year. So does the predicted Mayan end of the world. The book blurs fact and fiction as public events grow strange.
