O zi din viata lui Ivan Denisovici

Ivan Denisovici faces a single day in a Siberian prison camp. He wakes at five in a hut thick with frost. The hours bring hard work, cold, and the risk of illness. He must guard scraps of bread and avoid punishment. He must also find ways to endure without betraying others.

This work of fiction follows the daily struggle to survive the gulag. It speaks to readers drawn to life under Soviet rule. Aleksandr Soljeniţîn draws on his own time in the camps. The text first appeared in the journal Novîi Mir in November 1962. Humanitas published this second Romanian edition in 2013.
