Patrick Lanigan steals ninety million dollars from his law firm. He was once a young partner whom people liked. The job paid well, and his Mississippi firm thrived. He spends the next four years in hiding. Rich men with great power hunt him down. They find him near the jungle in Brazil.

Patrick returns to Mississippi for trial, where the theft began. The state's lawyers press their case against him. His own lawyer works to defend him in court. His girlfriend hopes the court will set him free. His old partners want to get back at him. But Patrick alone knows facts that could change the case. As the trial draws near, the story takes a new turn.

John Grisham's legal thriller deals with theft and a hunt. It also explores a truth that people dispute. It suits readers who like clashes in court and hidden motives. The book is a translation. Its original title is The Partner.
