Poezii (Macedonski)

This book brings young readers poems by Alexandru Macedonski. His poems explore doubt and longing. They also seek to find poetry itself. Critic Nicolae Manolescu sees this search as restless. He views it as key to the poet's work. In this view, the poet doubts his art. He does not simply trust it.

Macedonski (1854–1920) wrote poems, prose, and plays. He wrote for the press, too. He founded a journal called Literatorul. He also founded its literary circle, a group of writers. He helped pave the way for Romanian symbolism. He also formed ideas about poetry's role in social life.
