Război și pace

Război și pace tells of Russian noble families during Napoleon’s wars. Scenes shift from homes to the royal court and battle. Love and loss shape lives as war changes their world.

Lev Tolstoi’s novel blends life in the past with fiction. Some of its people are made up; others were real. It suits readers who like family tales and questions about the past.

Tolstoi questions the view that great leaders alone make things happen. He shows how events stem from many people and forces. The results lie beyond those people’s control.
