Revoluția română pentru tineri

Catalin Ranco Pitu writes about Romania’s December 1989 revolution. He traces its effects, which still shape the country. He shows how harsh rule fell and national identity changed. He stresses the courage people shared and the sacrifices they made. He calls for us to remember those who died. He links these events to democracy, free speech, and human rights. He also puts Romania’s later EU and NATO membership in this context.

This history book is for young readers. They did not live through those days. Pitu seeks to help them grasp what took place. He also wants them to grasp today’s freedoms. He sees the revolt as the start of changes still unfolding. He rejects claims that terrorists with Securitate ties rose up. He argues that a violent grab for power caused the bloodshed. He views the terrorist claims as lies tied to hybrid warfare.

Pitu draws on his work as a military prosecutor. He was born in Timisoara in 1973. He studied law at Bucharest’s Ecological University. He focused on criminal law and forensic science. In 2001, he joined the Association of Penal Sciences’ Timisoara branch. In 2016, he moved to Bucharest’s military prosecution section. There, he worked on the Revolution case. He became the section’s chief military prosecutor in 2020. By then, he had served 23 years in the judiciary. He signed the case’s indictment, which filled 3,000 volumes. It sought trials for Ion Iliescu, Gelu Voican Voiculescu, and Rus Iosif. The charges were crimes against humanity.
