Snoave - culese din folclor

These 15 short, comic tales come from Romanian folklore. They mock human faults, such as greed and lack of sense. Like anecdotes, they use humour to make a point. The clashes teach lessons on right and wrong. Good, clever, brave people win, as do those who work hard.

Some tales show Păcală as he meets priests and thieves. Others involve a pig or the sale of a cow. There are tales of three brothers, a riddle, and human folly. Priests appear more than once in tales of mishaps and lies. Other tales concern a judge and a woman, or two deaf women. Some show Roma people caught up in tricks. Others link Roma people to a ritual dish made of grain. These short prose tales blend comic events with questions of right and wrong.
