Удивительный Древний мир

This book tells the lives of key people from long ago. It spans the ancient East, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Some were strong pharaohs or queens whom people have since forgotten. Others led armies or ruled as harsh emperors. Some built empires or seized lands by force. Some rulers took up philosophy, the study of thought. Some slaves rose up against those who owned them.

These life stories help readers learn about the ancient world. How did Hatshepsut become the first woman to rule as pharaoh? Why did Solon rank among the Seven Sages? Why did Xerxes give orders to whip the sea? Which of Alexander’s army chiefs took the throne of Egypt? How did Octavian Augustus gain a title that marked him as divine?

Natalia Basovskaya tells these lives. She studies the history of the Middle Ages. She draws on texts written by hand in that age. She also uses chronicles, which record past events.
