The other is antisemitism, or hatred of Jews.

Arendt was an American thinker born in Hanover, Germany, in 1906. She first studied theology, the study of faith, at Marburg. In 1929, she earned a doctorate in philosophy at Heidelberg. She studied with Heidegger, Husserl, and Jaspers. The Gestapo arrested her in 1933. She then escaped to France. She reached America in 1941. There, she worked in the news and book trades. She also worked with Jewish groups. She later taught at Berkeley, Princeton, and Chicago. She also taught at New York’s New School for Social Research. She died in New York in 1975.
