Description

Lyla joins her boyfriend Nico on a reality TV contest. Her research after her doctorate has failed. Their bond has come under strain. The show takes them to an Indian Ocean island. Four other couples compete with them for a large cash prize. They are Bayer and Angel, Dan and Santana, Joel and Romi, and Conor and Zana.

The first task leaves the group shaken and angry. That night, a storm cuts them off from outside help. They have no way to contact the mainland. Food and drinking water run low as tensions rise. They must work together to stay alive. Yet a killer lurks among them. People in the contest start to die. Winning money no longer matters.

Ruth Ware blends satire about romance with tales of adventure. She also builds suspense through the mind and its fears. The novel draws on Agatha Christie's way of writing crime tales. It suits readers who like tales of staying alive. It also suits those who like mysteries about trapped groups.

Ware was born in 1977. She grew up in Sussex, in southern England. Her past jobs include work as a waitress and bookseller. She also taught English and worked as a public relations manager. This edition forms part of the Fiction Connection series. Ionela Chirila translated the book from English. Its English title is One Perfect Couple.
