Ватикан

This art album looks at art in the Vatican museums. It shows how popes built up these holdings over time. They gathered paintings and frescoes, or art painted on walls. They also gathered altarpieces and works of sculpture. The works date from the Middle Ages to the eighteenth century. The book is for those who like art and museum history.

It also looks at artists who shaped the Vatican’s palaces and halls. Michelangelo and Raphael are among them. So are Bramante and Botticelli. The book covers the Sistine Chapel and Raphael’s rooms. It also covers the Borgia apartments.

Carlo Pietrangeli tells this history. He is an art historian. He led the Vatican museums from 1978 to 1995.
