Вторая жизнь Уве

Ove is 59, drives a Saab, and keeps watch on his neighbours. He scolds them for sorting waste wrong or driving where signs forbid it. Yet his anger hides a once warm and loving heart. Loneliness has turned his care, skill, and love of order into fault-finding. He resents the world and plans to end his life. Then events disrupt his plans, and others find they need his skills.

This comic novel by Фредрик Бакман suits readers drawn to Swedish fiction and dark humour. It looks at loneliness, love, fear, and the gap between generations. Cars, women, and frustrations with computers also shape its world. The author links Ove’s outlook to his father’s generation and his own.

Бакман was born in Helsingborg, southern Sweden, in 1981. He left university studies in the history of religion and became a truck driver. He also wrote for local papers and their blogs. The novel first appeared in 2012 and reached readers in a dozen languages. It later became a stage play, first performed in late 2015. Hannes Holm also adapted it for film in Sweden. This edition presents the novel in Russian translation.
