Vulcan. Lumina vine de la Asfinţit

Mihai Buzea tells the life of writer and editor Iosif Vulcan. Vulcan backed Romanian arts. He chose press work after studying law. He founded the journal Familia in 1865. He later moved it to Oradea. He printed a poem by Mihail Eminovici under the name Eminescu. His work also helped raise funds for Romanian theatre.

This life story blends fact with fiction. It links his public work with his married life. His wife, Aurelia, looks back on their life together. She weighs her wish for time alone against his public aims. After his death, she tries to carry on his work. War leaves her mourning the loss of their world.

The book suits readers who like fiction about Romania's past and its arts. Polirom put out this paperback in Romanian in 2022. It forms part of the BIOGRAFII ROMANȚATE series.
