Way Ahead 5 is an English workbook by Mary Bowen and Printha Ellis. It is for pupils in grade four. It forms part of a six-level course for primary school children. They learn English as their first foreign language.

The course puts reading first. Children also learn to share ideas in English. Tasks build skills step by step. They suit classes whose pupils come from different cultures. At the early levels, characters help give the words a clear setting. Higher levels, including Level 5, focus on grammar and topics. They build skills children need for further study. Children learn to read, write, listen and speak.

This revised edition brings the content up to date. This includes computer use at school and at home. The books have more photos and now have word lists. The wider course adds more pages to read. These draw on other school subjects. Teachers can use them for whole lessons or short projects. Each level also has its own separate story recording. Children use it to read, listen and practise saying words.

The course also has readers, grammar practice books and teaching aids. The revised grammar books give more work to review past learning. They also give more work on handwriting. Pupil’s Books have a course outline for children and parents. At Levels 4–6, the main teacher’s books also hold the teacher resource material.
