Wonder

August, known as Auggie, is ten and wants to fit in. He likes ice cream and playing games on his Xbox. But he was born with a facial difference. People stare at him, and some children flee in fear. His parents have taught him at home until now. As he prepares to attend school for the first time, he fears how his classmates will react.

R. J. Palacio’s debut novel follows Auggie’s wish to find acceptance. It explores the gap between how he looks and how he feels inside. The story blends humour with frank accounts of painful reactions to his face. Bookzone identifies its edition as marking the book’s tenth anniversary.
