Mugur Ciuvica looks at the case against Dan Voiculescu. A court found Voiculescu guilty. He also traces Voiculescu’s ten-year clash with Traian Băsescu. This book on politics is for readers drawn to Romania’s courts. It also looks at the power of its president.

Ciuvica says Băsescu built a system that crushed people’s rights. He says this took place across Băsescu’s two terms as president. He charts what he sees as Băsescu’s growing hold on the courts.

The book looks at those who hold public office. It covers lawyers who bring charges, and judges. It also covers spy chiefs and people in business. Ciuvica says some people used propaganda to defend abuses. He looks at their role, too.

He writes with anger and a personal stake. Voiculescu is his friend. Ciuvica claims Băsescu drove courts to find twelve people guilty in 2014. He says all twelve were innocent. He recalls a warning Voiculescu gave in 2004. Voiculescu said Băsescu’s rule would bring chaos to Romania.
