What's the difference between a biography, an autobiography and a memoir?
A biography is written by someone else, usually from documents and interviews. An autobiography is a life told by the person who lived it, from the start to the present, while a memoir focuses on one period or experience. Diaries are written down at the time, day by day.
Which biography makes a good gift?
Go by the person's passions: Walter Isaacson's "Steve Jobs" or Ashlee Vance's "Elon Musk" for someone who loves technology, Andre Agassi's "Open" or Phil Knight's "Shoe Dog" for a sports fan. Books about artists and musicians suit their fans, especially in an illustrated edition.
