Good to know
What makes a collector's edition different?
It usually has a hardcover, better paper, illustrations or a slipcase, while the text generally stays the same as in the regular edition. Check the description to see what you get on top, and which language the edition is in, especially with imported sets.
What should I give if I don't know what someone has read?
A beautiful edition of a classic is a safe choice, because it's worth keeping even if the text is familiar. For a child, try a boxed set from a series they're just starting; for an enthusiast, an illustrated volume on their subject.
