Good to know
How do I choose a book for my child's age?
Up to about three, board books with big pictures and little text work well. Between three and six, children enjoy picture books read aloud, such as "The Gruffalo". New readers need large print and short sentences, and from around eight they can move on to novels like "Diary of a Wimpy Kid". The age on the cover is only a guide: how much your child likes reading matters too.
How can I get my child to read more?
Pick a book about something they already love, whether that's dinosaurs, football or princesses, and read together for a few minutes every evening. Series help a lot: if they liked one volume, they'll ask for the next. Let them choose for themselves now and then, even if they pick the same book ten times.
