Good to know
Which edition of a classic should I choose?
Classics come in many editions and translations, and the same text can vary a lot in price. Pocket editions are the cheapest and work well for school reading; for a book you'll reread, an edition with good paper, notes and a recent translation is worth it. Check the translator and the publication year before you buy.
Which classic should I start with?
Start with short novels: F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby", George Orwell's "Animal Farm" and Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray" read easily and still feel current. Then you can move on to Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" or Tolstoy's "War and Peace", which ask for more time.
