Aventurile fetei dezmatate

Ricardo Somocurcio falls in love with Lily in Lima in 1950. He is coming of age amid parties and mambo music in Miraflores. Their secret love brings joy and pain over forty years. They part and meet again across three continents. Each time Lily returns, she uses a new name.

The story moves from Lima’s wealthy circles to other worlds. These include Paris amid the unrest of the 1960s, hippie London in the 1970s, and modern Japan. Ricardo dreams of life in Paris and trusts in fate. Lily is a shrewd adventurer who sees chance behind their meetings.

This novel blends romance with a portrait of the postwar world. It links their troubled bond to a wider search for lost innocence and the capacity to love. It is for readers of love stories shaped by social change.

Mario Vargas Llosa won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2010. This edition belongs to a series devoted to his work. Marin Malaicu-Hondrari translated it from Spanish.
