Dans în ploaie

Dans în ploaie draws poems from Ana Blandiana’s books across the years. They ask what is right and how to face the world with courage. They also explore our sense of right and wrong. This book is for readers of poems. It is also for those who study modern Romanian writing. It forms part of the series Antologia unui autor.

Blandiana belongs to the Romanian poets of the 1960s. Her early poems blend strong sights, sounds, and other sense details. They link these with questions of right and wrong. Her poems reject giving up one’s values for personal gain. They prize a clear conscience and keep a gentle sense of womanhood. She puts thought ahead of the demands of fixed beliefs. She uses plain words, not dense or bookish forms.

Her work after December 1989 takes these thoughts deeper. It draws on daily life and nature’s rhythms. It places the poet’s life in the wider flow of time. This choice of poems brings these parts of her work together.
