Generatia Dopaminei

Generatia dopaminei shows how the quest for pleasure can cause pain. Anna Lembke asks how we can balance the two. She looks at drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, and video games. She also looks at texts, sexual messages, and social media. Phones keep these sources of reward close at hand. Such easy access can make us lose control of our use. It can also distract us all the time.

This nonfiction book is for those who seek to curb excess. Lembke is a psychiatrist and a writer. She draws on research and her patients’ lives. Their stories show their pain and how they got well. She explains why chasing rewards can hurt us. She also looks at ways to change these habits. She asks readers to face discomfort, not flee it.
