Iliada / Iliados

The Iliada tells of the war at Troy. Achaeans from Greece fight the Trojans and their allies. Gods take sides, among them Athena, Poseidon and Apollo. After ten years, armies still clash and heroes fight duels. Ajax, Hector and Patroclus stand out in these battles. Achilles kills Hector, the Trojan leader, in single combat.

This epic poem is attributed to Homer. He may have been a singer from Ionia in the late eighth century BCE. His poems draw on old myths, folk songs and shared traditions. The story blends invention with traces of Mycenaean life. Finds at Troy, Mycenae, Crete and Pylos help explain those links. The poem also draws on the world of its poet’s own time.

This bilingual edition pairs Romanian and Greek texts. It includes George Murnu’s translation and belongs to the Poesis series.
