Lebedele de pe Fifth Avenue

Truman Capote and his rich women friends fill this novel. They belong to New York's high society. The story takes place in the first decades after World War II. It draws on real people and events. Babe Paley is at its heart. Slim, Gloria and other women who inspired Capote also appear.

Melanie Benjamin blends history and fiction in this book. She writes for readers drawn to old New York and its famous lives. She looks at this rich group's gossip, secrets and fashions. Capote has charm, but he lies and loves himself. His inner life is frail. The women have beauty and power, yet they feel pain. The novel finds humor and human feeling in their flaws.

Florica Sincu translated this edition and wrote its notes. The book forms part of the Raftul Denisei series.
