Description
Pogoară-te, Moise traces the McCaslin family through the years. It spans the lives of several generations. William Faulkner looks at ties between Black and white people. He also probes the moral lives of those in power. One thread follows Isaac McCaslin. His sense of right and wrong grows.
Faulkner meant these linked stories to form a novel. Each gives the view of a different family member. Events do not follow time order, and voices shift. The tone ranges from farce to grave questions about life. The stories deal with fire and the hearth. They also deal with elders and a bear.
Critic Lionel Trilling links Isaac’s growth to two schools of thought. These are American Romantic thought and transcendental thought. Ralph Ellison sees Faulkner’s study of the South in broader terms. For him, it probes human nature.
This edition forms part of a series of Faulkner’s work. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949. He also won Pulitzer Prizes in 1955 and 1963.
