Poveste de vară

Jill Barklem’s story takes place in Desișul de Muri, a world of mice. They live close to nature in a kind, caring community. Their lives have room for fun as well as work. They share picnics, parties, outings and other gatherings. This children’s tale belongs to the Cartier codobelc series.

Barklem presents this world as her ideal way of life. She built it through research and kept detailed notes. She tried to shape it around mice rather than humans. The mice measure length with tails and paws. Acorns and wheat grains serve as weights. Sundials, marked candles and water clocks help them track time.

Her care extends to the plants that grow around them. Flowers must have the right petals, habitat and season. The mice must also be able to make and use their tools. These rules root her imagined world in the workings of nature.
