Умнее всех? Как наш мозг думает и принимает решения

Мануэль Мартин-Лоэчес asks how the human brain works. He looks at how it makes choices. How did thought take us beyond our peers in evolution? He compares us with octopuses and with Neanderthals.

This science book explains hard ideas about the brain for general readers. The author is a Spanish professor who teaches at a university. He also does research in a lab. He weighs what humans have done against the limits of reason.

His main claim is that the brain seeks pleasure before truth. Our mental skills can thus help us fool ourselves. When we know we will die, we may trust false stories. The book takes a sober, sad view of this clash. At the end, readers must choose between pleasure and truth. The author does not tell them which to choose.
